About Kaje TCS

What is Kaje TCS?
Kaje TCS is a small, family-owned technology consulting company located in east-central Illinois. Although Kaje TCS frequently works with businesses in the Chicago and Champaign areas, we are able to work on projects with companies located virtually anywhere in the world. Kaje TCS does work in all sorts of areas related to computers. The majority of our work involves web page design and creation, however we have the knowledge and experience to work on more complicated custom applications or simply help your business or organization decide the best ways to harness today's technology.
What does the word "Kaje" mean?
Kaje (pronounced like "cage") is a family nickname for our founder, Ken Keefe.

You may visit our contact page for various contact information. If you are already one of our clients, you can log in to ClientConnect on our website. Once you are logged in, click on "Personalized Contact Information". This will provide our normal contact information plus an emergency contact phone number for your urgent needs.

How do I get started?
Getting started on a project is often simpler than you might expect. Simply contact us and we will set up a time and date that is convenient for you to discuss what sort of projects you are interested in. This initial meeting usually lasts about an hour and is absolutely free. Once we have defined some clear goals for your projects, we will negotiate the maximum billing hours for the project and begin! (More information on billing)
Once we have started a project, is there a way for me to check the status of my project?
We firmly believe in providing as much information to our clients as they would like. To this end, we have a "Work Tracker" section in ClientConnect that allows a client to view their current projects, what has been done, what is being done now, and what will be done in the future. This allows our clients to become involved in their projects and make sure that they like what they see.

Pricing

Can you explain your billing?
At Kaje TCS, we are committed to only charging you for what you get. Most companies will give you a set price for your project, regardless of whether it takes 2 hours or 20 hours to complete. This practice requires those businesses to protect themselves by charging you more than your project really requires. At Kaje TCS, we know that time is money and that is how we will bill you.

When our customers decide what specific goals they would like to accomplish with their projects, Kaje TCS will estimate how many working hours it will take to complete the project. Kaje TCS and our customers will then agree to a working time limit. This limit protects our customers by being up front about what the maximum amount of time we can bill them for. If the limit is reached and the customer wants more features added to the project, we will renegotiate a new limit. If Kaje TCS completes the project before the limit is reached, our customers are only billed for the time that we have worked. Billing customers for time that we have not worked is dishonest and it is not how we do business.

Furthermore, by using our ClientConnect system, our clients have the ability to track the work we are doing so that any changes can be made early in the development process, which reduces costs. Since our customers are only billed by the time we have worked, if a customer decides to make major changes or cancel their project, they have the ability to do so without losing an investment in a flat-rate contract.
Do you offer reduced rates for nonprofit organizations?
Kaje TCS is a small, family company. We are grateful for the support our community provides and we are always interested in giving back. We do offer reduced rates and sometimes free work for nonprofit groups. In the past, we helped a girl scout troop create their first web page about their merit badges and trips for free. We are always open to the possibility of helping out our community. Our availability and rates are really contingent on how busy we are and how time-sensitive the project is. However, we invite organization members to contact us so that we can discuss what possibilities are available.

What services do you offer?
We offer many different services relating to the use of computer technology. Detailed information about our services can be found here.
Do we have to register our domain name through you?
No. Many of our new customers already have existing domain names. We are happy to help you configure your domain name to be used with our hosting service or third party hosts. Domain names are typically different than hosting services because you configure it once and then only have to deal with it when your domain name needs to be renewed. Hosting plans are usually trickier because, for example, if you have a new employee that will need an email address for your company, changes will need to be made with your hosting service. It is because of the regularly frequent changes to your hosting service that we recommend you turn to us for your hosting needs.

What is the best way to contact Kaje TCS?
The best way for our current customers to contact us is to log in to ClientConnect and visit the Contacts page. On that page, our customers will find contact information for the specific person that is managing their projects, including a 24-hour emergency contact phone number. You may also visit our main contact page for our phone number and addresses.

Email

How do I check my email on the web?
Webmail is included in all of our hosting packages. To check your email using your web browser, visit http://webmail.<your domain> (replacing the <your domain> with your domain name). For example, if your email address is mike@mikespizza.com, you can check your email by visiting http://webmail.mikespizza.com/.

Web Hosting

Do we have to host our website with you?
Absolutely not! One thing you'll discover about working with us is that we are very flexible. We have no problem creating your web page and making changes to your content. However, by having us host your web pages, we will be able to help you configure all of your services and be able to quickly help when something goes wrong. If you use outside hosting, it may be harder to help you with problems that arise and we will charge you for our time.

ClientConnect

What is ClientConnect?
ClientConnect allows a very important member of our team to participate in the development process, our client. ClientConnect is the portion of our website that allows our customers to communicate, observe, and interact with the developers working on their projects. Our clients use ClientConnect to view the current status of their project and see what work has been done (including how many hours each item took). Our clients are able to view an "in testing" version of their project so that they can provide important input to our developers and make changes early on, when costs are minimal.
